Physical Literacy means the person is able to move and able to do fundamental movement skills such as catch, jump, run, swim and throw.

Rahagiri is a unique idea where thousands of people are drawn from their houses on Sunday morning to build a community for cyclists and pedestrian rights.

Using Rahagiri platform to create awareness about Physical Literacy is how the Physical Literacy Days began in Hyderabad at Gachibowli Stadium every Sunday from 6 am to 9 am on request of Pullela Gopichand former Indian Badminton Player and Chief National Coach of Indian Badminton team.

In today’s scenario, a lot of us are living a sedentary lifestyle which is the main reason for physical inactivity. This is leading to stress and the end result is restlessness. Lack of sports participation has also affected our happiness and India is currently ranked at 122nd position in World Happiness Index.

Sports and Happiness have direct linkage and there are four key drivers of sports: Neighbourhood Sports Facility, Time to Play, Coaches at all levels and Competitions.

The first role model for a child is a parent and it never ends because the child is copying what parents are doing. Parents are unaware of Agility, Balance, and Coordination. In schools, Sports Education is given less time. When the Physical Activity is converted into games and gamified the results are interesting and positive.

Infrastructure is a necessary part of these activities and it comes at a cost. There is a lot of social and cultural impact also involved to get things in place. The idea is to not sit at home and complain but instead to go out and be the change.

Physical Literacy Days creates programs that integrate sports, education, health, and recreation to create a happier, healthier and sportier India.
